In the last few years, the inclusion of trans persons in the usual men’s and women’s categories has been a topic of immense debate, with several notable personalities being a part of the talks. Martina Navratilova is one sports personality who has been critical about including trans athletes, especially in the women’s categories. Now, Navratilova has been involved in the discussion once again because she shared a post by the author of the Harry Potter novels, JK Rowling, who is infamous for her comments against the trans community.
Navratilova was also in the limelight due to her comments about trans tennis players. A Twitter thread turned highly contentious as the discussion turned into an argument. After a user shared the podcast called The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling, Navratilova was dragged into a heated debate. Davina McCall, English TV presenter and ex-host of Big Brother, replied to the post, calling the podcast balanced.
A user replied to her on Twitter while defending JK Rowling’s point of view. Martina Navratilova, who carries some similar controversial opinions, retweeted the user’s response. It did not sit well with another commenter who called out the Czech-American legend. They asked whether she was a full supporter of JK Rowling and threw the idea that they would unfollow her.
The 59-time grand slam champion replied to the tweet while saying, “My retweeting is not the problem. The violence is the problem. I am indeed a full supporter of JK Rowling. The problem is that people have been attacked by trans activists – that has been well documented and it has been mostly one way traffic on that front.”
