After her decent campaign at the Miami Open, Osaka should be hoping to carry that form into the clay-court swing. She spoke about watching a few Rafael Nadal videos to prepare for the action on the red dirt. Despite her loss in Miami, her worst performance in a final, the Japanese is positive and is committed to improving her stature on clay. Master of playing on hard courts, Osaka admits that she is still a student of the game and determined to take efforts for a better showing on clay, clearly her least favorite surface.

Meanwhile, after her terrific performance at the Miami Open, she gained 42 spots to rise to World No. 35 in the WTA rankings. Certainly, it’s great news for the Japanese player to get a direct entry at the Roland Garros. Still, she needs to perform well in the other clay-court events, to maintain her ranking before the French Open. Despite never progressing beyond the round of 32 at the French Open, this could be an excellent year for her to play freely and improve her record at Roland Garros.
