Amanda Anisimova heads into the fourth round after Karolina Muchova’s unfortunate injury at French Open 2022

As Muchova rolled her ankle, Anisimova began to take the charge over her opponent and started playing to her strengths. A well-balanced first set was decided in a tie-breaker and it was the Czech who got the better off Anisimova.

Things were going well for Muchova till that one slip in the second set and there was no going back up from there for her. Even after taking a medical time-out to treat the injury, Karolina was visibly in pain and couldn’t control her emotions on-court.

Despite the pain, the Czech player managed to stay in the match and tried to play till the end. But, the pain only started to aggravate and Muchova was left with no choice but to retire.

As Anismova won the second set and started off the third in an emphatic way by winning three straight games, Muchova took the decision to retire from the match and could be seen crying as she embraced Anisimova at the net.

With this walkover, the American star reaches the fourth round at Roland Garros. Right from the start of the season, Amanda has been performing decently at slams and defeated few top players as well.

On the other hand, Karolina Muchova, who has seen her own share of success, couldn’t continue her reign at the top owing to injuries. Just like today, the Czech star was prone to injuries in the past as well. At the Miami Open recently, Muchova gave a walk-over to Naomi Osaka owing to an abdominal injury.

A slew of injuries are hurting Karolina Muchova’s chances to make it big at a Grand Slam and her latest episode against Amanda Anisimova in Paris today was an example of the same.
