Miami Open 2024 winner Danielle Collins once again responded to the question about her retirement. Collins announced her forever leave from this sport when Iga Swiatek defeated her in the AO Open 2024.  After that, there has been no interview where she was left without answering her retirement-related questions. Now that this American WTA star won a prestigious Masters 1000 title, interviewers didn’t hesitate to take her back to the same spot.

Collins never bothered to open up about her painful tennis endeavors due to her endometriosis and arthritis. She underwent surgery but it wasn’t very helpful so she decided on retirement. Now after her victory, the tennis fraternity might wish her to reconsider the decision as they continuously ask her about it.

After defeating Elena Rybakina to bag the Miami Open 2024 title, Collins was interviewed in a press conference. She was asked whether she is reconsidering her retirement decision now that she made another achievement in her career. Danielle Collins responded with grace as she admired the fraternity’s concern about her career – “I have some health challenges, and with those health challenges, it makes things for me away from the court a little more difficult. I hope everyone can respect that. It’s a very emotional and personal thing.”

She felt these questions were coming from the fraternity’s urge to see her on the court for more. However, this American WTA star wished to stick to the retirement decision.

Danielle Collins said she is “really looking forward to” her retirement after this season

At the Abu Dhabi Open this year, Collins delved deeper into her feelings regarding her planned retirement. After defeating Naomi Osaka in straight sets, Collins said- “Earlier this year around the holidays I decided this would be my last season, I’m feeling really happy about it and looking forward to it. I haven’t been on tour that long, compared to some of the other players. Because I did go the college route, so I didn’t really start on tour until I was 22. In some ways it seems like it was just yesterday when I started playing and in other ways it seems like I’ve been out here for an eternity.”
