Venus Williams started her grass season with a kick-start opening. She stunned the world with her fitness, despite the injuries she suffered. The queen of grass recently faced a disappointing loss on the surface she always ruled. In the sixteenth round of the Rothesay Classic, ‘Queen Vee’ fought with Jelena Ostapenko. Though the former lost, the world was awestruck by the strength and vigor of Williams.
In a video posted by ‘Sports Talk’ on Instagram, Rennae Stubbs gave her analysis of the game and praised the Queen for not making it easy for Ostapenko.

In the Instagram video, Stubbs delivered, “The great, wonderful Venus Williams, unfortunately ended up losing her match today in an absolute, of course battle. Just an epic match against Jelena Ostapenko. It was a terrific match.” Ostapenko won by defeating Williams in two sets. The scorecard read 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
The former coach of Serena Williams analyzed, “In the second set actually, Venus really should have been out of there. Otapenko was up a set in 5-3, had a match point on Venus’ serve at 5-3. Venus, of course, hung on there in that game. Then she broke serve.” The four times Olympian stated that the Tennis legend led 2-0 in the third set with a break and serving to go up 3-0.
But the five-time Wimbledon Championships winner could not make it in the third set. Stubbs wished for the American to get in the form again. She said, “But I have to say, hopefully Venus can get this knee sorted out. That’s been an issue for her in this tournament. She was really struggling with a lot of her movement out there.”?Stubbs also expresses her confidence in Venus Williams about her play at Wimbledon.
Lookout for Queen Venus at Wimbledon
Ostapenko always idolized Serena Williams while growing up. So, the Australian coach believed that Ostapenko got nervous after the match as this was her first win against the Queen. She said that it wasn’t a cakewalk for the Latvian, though she was one of the top seeds. The seven Grand Slam titles winner, now ranked 697, made it difficult for the second seed to win.
Stubbs said, “She was really struggling with a lot of her movement out there. But considering she’s 43 years of age, she played a three plus hour match the other day, has a knee issue, went 6-3 in the third with one of the best players in the world. Just shows you, look out. Venus Williams will not be a pushover at Wimbledon.”

Like Roger Federer, Venus Williams feels comfortable on the grass. Her grass court wins are more than any other surface wins. So Stubbs hopes that ‘Queen Vee’ has enough tennis under her belt to feel pretty confident going into the next couple of weeks on the grass.
