Venus Williams is arguably one of the most successful athletes of the sport. Entering the professional circuit in 1994, the former World No. 1 soon rose to the top and dominated women’s tennis for a long time. Having created an aura by her excellence, the 41-year-old can today play on any court around the world. However, that wasn’t the case when she started.

Venus Williams started learning tennis on the public courts of Compton, California. Furthermore, unlike Eric Hechtman right now, Venus learned tennis from her father Richard Williams. Little did the two know that she would go on to become one of the greatest players of all time. Today, even though Venus can play anywhere around the world, one court that has always remained close to her heart is the one where she began tennis.

Recently, Venus Williams had a nostalgic moment when she visited the tennis court where she started playing tennis. Going through an evocative phase during the visit, Williams was clicked roaming around the court, recalling her childhood time.

Wanting to share the moment with her fans, Venus Williams took to her Instagram uploading the clicked photo. She shared the photo by uploading a story on her Instagram handle. In the story, Venus wore a black tennis dress, coupled with white shoes. She was clicked while walking adjacent to the net of the hardcourt. The American coupled the story with Kendrick Lamar’s ‘These Walls’.

The gracious career of Venus WIlliams

In 1994, Venus Williams started her tennis career at the age of 14. She played her first professional match at the WTA Bank of the West Classic, crashing out in the second round. Gaining experience of the professional circuit, she went back to the practice courts, only to come back in August 1995.

In 1995, she faced first-round losses in Los Angeles and Toronto. However, she made a mark by reaching the quarterfinals of the Bank of the West Classic. Constantly working on her game, it was in 1997 that Venus reached her first milestone. In the year, Venus not only entered the Top 100 but also reached the first tournament final, at the US Open. Being the US Open runner-up also gave Venus an entry into the T0p 50.

In 1998, she won her first tour title at the WTA 1000 Lipton Open (Now known as the Miami Open). Following the win, Venus entered the Top 10. After continuous hard work and dedication towards the game, it was in 2000 that Venus Williams won her first Grand Slam, the 2000 Wimbledon. In the same year, she also won the US Open and an Olympics Gold. In 2021 she defended her titles, both at Wimbledon as well as the US Open.

It was on 25th February 2002, that Venus Williams reached the biggest milestone of her tennis career by becoming the World No. 1 for the first time. Today, almost 3 decades later, Venus Williams has 49 singles titles to her name, out of which 7 are Grand Slam wins. Apart from that, she has also been the World No. for 11 weeks.
