Not winning a Grand Slam title for three years could weigh on a player’s mind and if it’s Serena Williams, it would bother her even more.  It’s a tag she would want to shake off at the earliest.

However, as she sets foot at the Melbourne Park this year in the quest of her 24th Grand Slam title, the American will draw a lot of comfort and belief from not only her previous record at the Australian Open but also a piece of statistics that puts her head and shoulders above the rest.

Serena Williams has 113 match wins in Australia, most by a female star

At 113, Serena, by far, leads the tally for the most number of match wins in Australia. She won a staggering nine titles Down Under, including seven Australian Open titles and two Tour championship wins in Brisbane.

Trailing the American at second is Belgian tennis star Kim Clijsters, with 72 match wins on Australian soil.

The Belgian, who marked her return from retirement at the US Open last year, won five singles titles last year, including the Australian Open in 2011.

At third is former World Number 1 Victoria Azarenka, with 69 match wins Down Under. She scripted two of the most glorious moments of her career in Australia with back-to-back championship wins at Melbourne in 2012 and 2013.

Sister Venus Williams is at fourth despite never winning Australian Open

For someone who has never lifted the Australian Open crown, Venus Williams is at fourth in terms of the number of wins she recorded at Australia.

The 40-year-old has 68 match wins Down Under, with her moment of glory coming at 2000 Sydney Olympics where she won the singles gold.

At her age, the odds certainly don’t favor Venus to post her maiden championship win at Melbourne Park this year, but she will readily trade half of her wins on Australian soil for one.

At fifth is German tennis star Angelique Kerber, who has 67 match wins in Australia. She surely has fond memories of the kangaroo country as she won maiden Grand Slam title at Melbourne Park in 2016.
