Venus Williams congratulated an upcoming American tennis star for his first-round win in the Australian Open. She took to her Instagram account and uploaded a story to congratulate the youngster. 

The American captioned the story “Welldone!,” along with tagging her coach Eric Hechtman and Yannik Rahman, the 17-year-old. The story included a repost of Eric’s Insta post.

Venus Williams’ congratulates Yannik Rahman for Australian Open Juniors first round win 

In the original Instagram post by Venus’ coach, he was congratulating Rahman for his first-round win in the boys category of Australian Open Juniors 2022. The 7-time Grand Slam champ reposted that on her story to provide more encouragement to the 17-year-old budding star. 

The caption read, “Congrats to Yannik Rahman for winning his first-round match in the Australian Open Juniors and overcoming heat, nerves, and losing the first set to battle back and win in 3 sets. Thank you to all those back home that watched and supported him.” “Big thank you to Venus Williams for her Champion’s insights and wisdom.”

Rahman is a 17-year-old ITF player and a student at Eric Hechtman’s academy. Winning 2 ITF tournaments in 2021, Rahman entered Australian Open 2022 in the Boys category. He won his first-round match against Louis Bowden.

Currently 62nd in the ITF ranking, Yannik reached a career-high of 58 on 3rd January 2022. He will next face Poland’s Olaf Pieczkowski in the second round of Australian Open 2022 boys category.

Williams’ recent struggles on court

Venus Williams has not been performing on her top-level lately. With continuous early exits over the last 2 years, the 41-year-old was last seen on court in August last year. She played at the WTA Chicago Women’s Open 2021, where she lost to Taiwan’s Su-Wei Hsieh in the first round.

Currently ranked at 347, Venus first became world number one in February 2002. While she hasn’t been able to perform at her vintage levels for a while, fans are still hopeful to watch the American legend in action for one last dance on the Tour.
