Straight from their early teenage years, Venus Williams and her sister Serena Williams took the tennis world by storm with their father Richard Williams right behind them. Rick Macci, their childhood coach was another person who guided the Williams sisters to success and even spent his funds for their upliftment. In fact, the Hall of Famer tennis coach even purchased a motor home for the sisters to ensure they don’t lack anything. In a recent tweet, Macci reflected on the time when he spent his funds behind the upliftment of the two tennis stars without any hesitation while also revealing how he was very sure about them.

Having coached the Williams sisters from 1991-1995, he was essential behind the early success of the Williams sisters who would later go on to win 30 singles Grand Slam titles between them.

In a recent revelation, Rick Macci talked about the support he gave Venus and Serena Williams which makes him feel incredibly proud. People asked him many times if he’d do the same financially and personally for others, but Macci sees supporting the Williams sisters as a sure thing, not a risky bet.

“Asked how many times been approached to do what I did financially and personally for the Williams family and Roll the Dice on such a Long Shot. To many to count but it was not a Long Shot but a Sure Shot as there only ONE or should I say TWO @serenawilliams @Venuseswilliams,” said Rick Macci in the tweet.

Earlier this year also Macci revealed the reason he took a huge gamble on the sisters financially was due to his love for their family and because of the the “scary gifts” the two sisters had. He tweeted, “Was asked why I took a huge gamble financially on the Williams sisters. I would never done it if I did not love this family. Number two both girls had scary gifts that I never saw in two young girls. They needed a shot. It would be a mystery but I thought we could change history,”

For Macci, what he invested in their training and growth goes way beyond money. It’s about nurturing a legacy that will always stand out in the world of tennis. When Macci first saw Venus Williams practicing, he approached her father and told him that she was the “next female Michael Jordan,” to which Richard Williams answered he had the next two.

While reflecting on the early years of the two stars, Rick Macci highlighted one trait that made Serena Williams more likely to attain success, and that was her competitiveness. In an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, Macci reflected on the same.

Rick Macci said Serena would push her sister out of the way for a chicken piece

In the exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, Macci said that Serena Williams was very competitive right from her childhood. According to Macci, she always had the urge to come first in everything, even if there was a piece of chicken on the table. This instilled a feeling of competitiveness in her which helped her as she grew. However, Venus, on the other hand, was very mature and did not bother with this.

He said in the interview“It was her competitiveness. It didn’t matter, if there was like a piece of chicken on the table she pushed Venus out of the way to get it. She had to be the first to take a drink. She was always like had to be first, she was so competitive.”
