Donna Vekic, the Olympic silver medalist, is back in the second week of the US Open for the first time in five years, and she’s excited to show off her fresh look. After a third-round victory over Peyton Stearns on Friday, Vekic has advanced to the Round of 16 for the first time since 2020 without dropping a single set. While she now has won 16 of her last 20 matches on tour, is anyone going to ask Vekic about her new bangs? Before anyone does, Danielle Collins, Vekic’s colleague and friend, has something to say!

On September 1, Vekic shared some New York moments on her Instagram account. While she looked beautiful from her casual in-home look to her stylish outings, Vekic’s bangs added an extra layer of glamour to her look. “Behind the scenes NY edition 😎🪽💇🏼‍♀️” she captioned her post. And within a few hours of the post, Collins commented, “Bangs for life 👯‍♀️”. But what does Collins’ comment imply?

Remember the time ahead of 2024 Wimbledon when Coco Gauff came up with a makeover: “blonde for the summer”? At the same time, Collins debuted a new hairstyle with bangs on Instagram, captioning it “Someone got bangs!” Seems like she has got so much love for bangs! On the other hand, not just Instagram, Vekic was seen obsessing over her hairstyle in an interview.

After answering reporters’ questions on various topics on Friday evening, including the upcoming rematch with Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen, Donna Vekic decided to switch gears. “Nobody is going to ask me about my bangs?” she said with a smile. “I just cut them.” When the reported finally asked, “Tell us about them”, Collins revealed,Yeah, I’ve always wanted to cut my bangs, but a friend pushed me to do it (laughing).”

In fairness, there were a lot of other things to talk about: Vekic’s expectations from the future.

Donna Vekic reveals she is more “motivated than ever”

After defeating Stearns by 7-5 and 6-4, the Croatian player presented a lot of hope about her US Open journey in a post match presser. “Once you get through the first couple of rounds, everything is possible,” she said. Vekic also revealed how winning a medal for her country in the Paris Olympics motivated her to pursue her professional tennis career more competitively.

After winning the medal in Paris, I was like, ‘OK, now I feel a lot more relaxed. If I never ever win anything again, it’s fine,” she said. However, her US Open run has changed her perception of her ability. “But now, coming to New York, I’m motivated more than ever. Hopefully, I can keep playing well, and who knows?” Vekic concluded.

Donning a new hairstyle before a big tournament is a trend among female athletes. From Coco Gauff to Serena Williams, WTA stars rocked different hairstyles on the court, impressing their followers. Now, only time will tell if she can make it to the finals with her gorgeous bangs.
