It was the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open 2021 and fans saw a really exciting encounter there. Karolina Muchova defeated World No.2 Naomi Osaka in three sets to earn the ticket to the pre-quarters of the tournament. The final scoreline of the match was 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

With this, the poor form of Naomi Osaka continues on clay as she hasn’t played really well on the surface. It is also a reminder that she has to learn a lot before Roland Garros 2021.

Set-1: Karolina Muchova stuns Naomi Osaka

Serving first, Osaka won the first game quite easily and took the early lead. However, Muchova equalized the scoreline soon and interestingly, broke in the third game to take the lead 2-1.

Even though Osaka earned a break-point in the fourth fame, she failed to capitalize on it. As a result, Muchova took extended her lead and was now leading 3-1. The one who served continued to win after that and the scoreline soon reached 5-3.

Even though the World No.2 Osaka saved a set-point in the 9th game, she couldn’t stand long. Thus, Muchova won the next game and took the set 6-4.

Set-2: Osaka fights back to continue her journey at Mutua Madrid Open 2021

Osaka again started the set beautifully by winning the first game easily. However, by breaking in the third game, Muchova once again established a 3-1 lead over Osaka.

It was a now or never situation for Osaka and she performed brilliantly under pressure. She broke in the sixth game to equalize the scoreline at 3-3. Stunningly, she won the next game too and managed to take the lead in the set again.

Osaka broke yet again and in the fifth game and widened the margin of her lead. She was now just one game away from equalizing the set scoreline at 1-1. She didn’t take long and won the set in the next game only.

Set-3: Muchova shines in the decider

Muchova enjoyed a great start in the third set. After winning the first game, she broke in the cond to take her lead to 2-0. She carried her momentum forward and won the next game as well to establish a 3-0 lead over Osaka. However, Osaka came back strong and reduced the margin 3-1 at the end of the fourth game.

Muchova didn’t allow Osaka to take any sort of momentum. She struck back and won the next game to take her lead to 4-1. She broke yet again and was now just one game away from entering into the pre-quarters of the Mutua Madrid Open 2021.

Muchova didn’t take long and finished the match in the next game, conquering the set 6-1, and thus, winning the match.
