Every time Iga Swiatek plays, she seems to create new records while breaking existing ones. Today at the French Open, she beat 18-year-old American, Coco Gauff, to lift her second Grand Slam trophy. With this win, she matched Venus Williams’ record of staying unbeaten in 35 consecutive matches.

Apart from that, she also joined the former World Number 1, Maria Sharapova, on another enviable record.

Iga Swiatek becomes the second-youngest player since Maria Sharapova to win multiple slams

Maria Sharapova won two Grand Slams, the US Open in 2006, at the age of 19, and the Wimbledon Championships at 17. This Tuesday, Swiatek turned 21 and now she has become the second-youngest woman since the Russian to win more than one Grand Slam tournament.

Notably, Swiatek also broke and matched a few other records, after winning the French Open. She became only the fourth-youngest woman to win the Roland Garros championship more than once in the Open Era, behind only Monica Seles, Steffi Graf, and Chris Evert. Apart from that, she also became the 10th woman to win multiple French Open titles in the Open era.

In the final, all eyes were on the Pole to see if she could match Venusrecord of most back-to-back wins (35) since 2000. Unsurprisingly, she did it with relative ease. If we are counting from 1990, she’s third on the list now, behind Martina Hingis (37) and Monica Seles (36). The way Swiatek is playing right now, she will fancy her chances of breaking those records in the upcoming grass-court season.

Coco Gauff had no chance against Swiatek

Many fans and experts thought the American teenager would pose some challenges for the Pole in the final of the French Open 2022. However, Gauff didn’t have any chance, as Swiatek demolished the American, in a one-sided final that lasted just 68 minutes. During the trophy ceremony, Gauff gave an emotional speech as she congratulated Swiatek and her own team for an amazing journey.
