In a career spanning over two decades, Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer has won numerous accolades on and off the court. With his impressive technique, he gathered millions of fans across the globe, and even inspired several current tennis players when they were growing up.

A lot of youngsters have named the Big-3 to be their inspiration when they began playing tennis as kids. One of the many youngsters to have idolized the Swiss Maestro is the young Columbian Maria Camila Osorio Serrano.

Maria Camila Osorio Serrano wishes to play in the same tournament as her idol, Roger Federer

The 19-year old athlete is just one victory shy of making into the French Open main draw for the first time in her young career. Growing up, the Columbian has always dreamed of playing in a tournament that has Roger Federer in the draw.

 

It’s unreal, a dream, I’m going to keep working hard so that I can play in the same tournament as Roger”, Osorio Serrano said.

At the French Open qualifiers last year, the Columbian lost in the first round. Since then, she made steady improvement to her game, and won her first WTA title this year at Bogota(Copa Colsanitas). With this victory, Osorio managed to break into top-100 of women’s rankings.

I’ve played a lot of tournaments at the WTA Tour, so I feel more confidence when I walk onto the court. I’m not scared anymore when I’m playing this level. So it’s good, I’m enjoying all I’m doing”, explained the Columbian.

Osorio Serrano was also the winner of 2019 US Open juniors title. With early success, it’s usually hard to maintain consistency at the top. But, the Columbian was hopeful of maintaining the peak form she is having on the WTA tour right now.

It was really nice I broke into the top 100, it was one of my goals at the beginning of the year. It’s all come so fast, I didn’t think I could do this until the end of the season, but it shows how much I’m improving”, concluded Osorio.

The young Columbian will play an experienced campaigner in Monica Niculescu in the deciding match at Roland Garros qualifiers today.
