The American tennis star is in a dominant form, especially after closing off her 2024 season in remarkable fashion. Gauff managed to win only one title initially at the ASB Classic in the initial half of the last year. Despite inching closer to victory on multiple occasions, like the Semi-finals of the Australian Open, Indian Wells Masters, Italian Open, and French Open, she could not convert her momentum. But towards the end of the season, she managed to bounce back in style winning the China Open and eventually the glorious WTA Finals in Riyadh. And as she has stepped into the new season, she seems to carrying forward her momentum. Her improved serve biomechanics and a better forehands – things that she reportedly worked on over the off season – seem to be holding up well.

Gauff has won all three matches that she has played in the singles category at the United Cup. The star player began her campaign by defeating Leylah Fernandez in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. She continued her campaign and outshone Croatia’s Donna Vekic and then China’s Zhang Shuai in the quarterfinals. But the challenge against her is not easy. 

Karolina Muchova depicted some remarkable gameplay last season. While she could not win a title, her consistency remained remarkable when she emerged as the runner-up in Palermo and in the China Open. Besides, she also advanced to the semi-finals of the US Open, proving her mettle. In the ongoing United Cup too, she began her campaign by taking down Malene Helgo in straight sets. Although she failed to outclass Iga Swiatek in her second match, she pounced back against Jasmine Paolini, leaving the Italian star baffled.

Prediction: Coco Gauff to overcome Karolina Muchova in straight sets 

Coco Gauff has been on a dominant run at the United Cup. She has not lost a single match in singles or even the mixed-doubles category and will be fueled with confidence ahead of her semi-final clash. Fresh off from a win-loss record of 54-17 in 2024, the American star has proved that she can take down even the best of the players. Muchova, on the other hand, played remarkably fewer matches last year and has a win-loss record of 21-7.  She will now need to boost her efforts to outshine the American wizard. 

While nothing is impossible in tennis and the sport is known for giving some unexpected results, Gauff will try not to fall prey to Muchova’s wit. However, she will need to keep her serve in check and any mistake similar to what she did against Aryna Sabalenka in the Wuhan Open by firing 21 double faults, can prove costly. On the other hand, Muchova will try to put on a similar show like the 2021 Australian Open quarterfinals when she defeated the-then No. 1 Ashleigh Barty. 

Known for her remarkable footwork and baseline game, Muchova will have to cash in her skills to push Gauff to her limits. However, this might not just be enough to outshine the 20-year-old and hence, Gauff is definitely our favorite in the semi-finals.
