Uncertainty is the most stressful feeling. And unfortunately, it seems like confused is the only word to describe fans of Venus Williams. It has been a while since she showed up in the courts for doubles. Fans all over the world are missing the golden days of the Williams tag-teaming their opponents. However, just when things were beginning to get better, another bomb just dropped.
Venus was all set for her wildcard entry in the Jasmin Open. Even the Tunisian Federation confirmed this news ahead of the event. However, taking the latest reports into account, things seem slightly different. This new mystery needs to be solved ASAP!

Venus Williams has been avoiding matches because of a severe leg injury. The news of her return was exciting for all the fans, as it would have been her first match since the US Open. The Federation announced as recently as two days ago, saying, “The countdown has officially started for Jasmin Open in Monastir (250 points) from October 14 to 22, Ons Jabeur & Venus Williams will be with us.”
Ons Jabeur & Venus Williams might not be playing in Monastir after all.
The Tunisian Tennis Federation made the announcement that they would both be playing the tournament.

However, in an unexpected twist, the official list of the players has no mention of either Williams or Jabeur. Questions pop up further, as this claim is a bit tough to digest. Jabeur is currently at the Zhengzhou Open. She will be facing Lucia Bronzetti in the Round of 16.
Since Williams is partnered with Jabeur, there might be a small chance that the duo will make it to the tournament. Jabeur is from Tunisia, and the organizers wouldn’t have taken two big names if they weren’t planning for them to show up. If they do appear, seeing their performance with ongoing injuries will be interesting. At the very least, the rumors of Venus’ retirement have been put to rest in the interim period.
Williams’ statement on retirement
Last year, Venus Williams was pretty adamant about not returning to doubles. She even said to a fan on Instagram that she was done with doubles since Serena Williams has retired as well. It is the sisterly love and the experience of partnering up with the best.
However, the news about her picking the racquet for another doubles match has filled the fans with excitement. One of the reasons Venus shared was that she wouldn’t find someone as glorious as her sister to partner with. But to every fan’s surprise, Ons Jabeur has been named her partner. Ons is a good alternative for Williams.
Whether the duo will play or not is still an unanswered question. On one hand, the federation is claiming loudly that Williams is back. However, the official report does not support those claims in any way or form. Until further news comes out, fans have no option but to hope she returns.
