Angelique Kerber, the former world No. 1 tennis player, has announced her pregnancy, joining tennis moms Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki. Also, Kerber will miss the US Open as she is taking a break from tennis.

Kerber has three Grand Slam titles, one of which she won at the US Open. In the US Open final of 2016, Kerber triumphed over Karolina Pliskova. In the Flushing Meadows final, Kerber defeated Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to win her second title of the year.

The German, 34, rose to the top of the WTA rankings in 2016 after winning the championship at Flushing Meadows. She added a Wimbledon title in 2018 and won the Australian Open that same year.

Angelique Kerber confirms she’s expecting her first child

After announcing her first pregnancy, three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber withdrew from the US Open. She revealed that pulling out from the US Open wasn’t easy. But she believes it was the best decision considering the situation.

She posted her pregnancy news on Twitter, saying that she will “take a break from traveling the globe as a tennis player” which she believes is “the best possible reason.

Caroline Wozniacki, a retired tennis player who is also a new mother, commented on the post with a string of heart emojis.

How many titles did Kerber win this season?

Kerber only won one title this season. Prior to the French Open, she won Strasbourg after defeating Kaja Juvan in the tournament final.

Her marathon win over Kaja Juvan in the Strasbourg final was her first clay court title in more than six years. In the longest WTA final of the year, the German defeated Juvan in 3 hours and 16 minutes, winning 7-6 (7/5), 6-7 (0/7), 7-6 (7/5).

Angelique Kerber last participated at Wimbledon this year, where she was knocked out in the third round. She is currently ranked 52nd in the world.

Tennis fans will have to wait a while for her return after she announced that she would be skipping the US Open and taking a break from tennis.
