Three years, five grand slams, and multiple titles, that’s was Iga Swiatek‘s ex-coach Tomasz Wiktorowski helped him achieve. However, every good thing comes to an end so did their collaboration. Earlier this year, the Polish sensation announced that she would no longer be under Wiktorowski’s tutelage and appointed Wim Fisette as her new coach. However, shortly after their collaboration, her world took a major U-turn after she was accused of doping. Opening up on the same, the Belgian coach offered his true insights.

Wim Fissette revealed why he decided to join Iga Swiatek’s team, even amidst the controversy surrounding her provisional doping suspension. Trust, Fissette explained, played a crucial role in his decision. “Trust has been the basis of a good relationship in our team from the very beginning. Iga told me about the whole thing and left it up to me to decide about our cooperation,” Fissette shared.

Swiatek faced scrutiny after her urine sample, taken on August 12, showed low levels of trimetazidine (TMZ), a banned substance. It was later discovered that the TMZ contamination came from melatonin purchased for her by her psychologist in Poland. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Fissette expressed confidence in Swiatek’s character. “I had been observing her for a long time, her values, work ethic, and standards. From the very beginning, I was convinced of her innocence, so it did not affect my decision to join the team,” he said.

Swiatek endured uncertainty during the investigation, which affected her emotionally. “The worst part of it was the uncertainty. I didn’t know what was going to happen with my career,” she admitted. Fissette’s belief in her innocence and commitment to the team showcases a bond built on respect and trust, even during challenging times. And it’s a great sign for the star.

Andy Roddick stands by Iga Swiatek as he offers valuable advice amidst doping controversy

Andy Roddick, the former World No. 1, voiced strong support for Iga Swiatek as she navigates the challenges brought by her doping controversy. Speaking on Christian’s Court during a recent interview, Roddick called the situation “unfortunate” for Swiatek and shared his perspective on how she should handle the adversity.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Iga Swiatek's trust in Wim Fissette help her overcome the doping controversy and reclaim her glory?

“I can’t call it doping. It’s like taking melatonin for jet lag at 2:30 in the morning in Cincy and having… think about how many things had to go wrong for Iga Swiatek to get popped for melatonin and something that was contaminated,” Roddick remarked. His words show the circumstances that led to Swiatek’s provisional suspension, which has since been resolved.

Roddick shared a little piece of advice too. “There will certainly be things to deal with. She is going to get asked about it every time. It will be as if whoever has asked the question hasn’t been able to read her responses before—they are going to make her say it again and again… Don’t have a moment where you are exhausted by it. Just be patient with the process and do what you have to do. The more emotion you show, the more likely it is to be a story over and over again,” added Roddick.

As Swiatek aims for redemption, including a potential title at the 2025 Australian Open, Roddick’s support will mean a lot to the Polish superstar.
