World No.8 Serena Williams recently sealed her spot in the pre-quarters of the French Open 2021. The 39-year-old played some top-class tennis against Danielle Rose Collins in the third round and crushed her in straight sets. The final scoreline of the match was 6-4, 6-4.
In a recent interview, tennis legend Mats Wilander praised Serena Williams a lot after her recent performance at Roland Garros 2021. He believes that even though Serena faced some trouble in the second set, she adjusted her tactics quite well to bounce back in the match.
“Serena is playing really well. This was a tough match. She’s hitting the ball well, she’s moving well. She adjusted her tactics a little bit. So, a really good performance,” said Wilander in the interview.

Mats Wilander explains how Serena Williams defeated Danielle Rose Collins
Wilander highlighted that despite going through many challenges, Serena was able to finish the match in straight sets. He even cited the reason for the same.
“I think she stepped into the court a little bit. She started hitting a little bit harder. She went after the returns the way Serena Williams does… The power is incredible. She hits the ball very clean at the moment and if she does play well like this, I think it helps her a little bit- that it’s on the clay court because she gets a little bit extra time… Her serves were unbelievably precise as well. So, really really great performance,” added the former World No.1 player.
After a poor start to her clay-court season, Williams has finally found her momentum. She has a golden chance of even winning the French Open 2021 title now as six of the top 10 WTA players are already out of the competition.
