Alexis Ohanian isn’t just a powerhouse entrepreneur—he’s one of women’s sports’ biggest supporters. Serena Williams‘ husband has made it his mission to uplift female athletes, whether by investing in their future or fiercely advocating for equality. And now, that passion has sparked a heated social media exchange! When a fan recently shared some outlandish views on women’s sports, Ohanian wasn’t about to let it slide. His response? Direct, unapologetic, and full of the same fire he brings to everything he stands for.
The official account of The Offseason took to X to stream the fourth episode of the docuseries. For the unversed, the reality-style show, “The Offseason FC” is co-produced by Ohanian along with Midge Purce. The series highlights the lives of 11 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) players as they live and train together in Miami during the offseason. The series is gaining widespread praise and is also reflected in the Audience engagement.
The first episode amassed over 2.5 Million views within just 24 hours of its release on October 18 and soon crossed the 10 Million mark. Similar engagement was witnessed in the subsequent episodes as well with the third episode amassing more than 4.1 Million views in less than 24 hours. But as soon as the fourth episode of the series gained traction, what followed was an exchange between a user and the co-producer, Ohanian.

Commenting on the video, one user wrote, “We are not watching this,” with a trash-can emoji. This did not go well with the Reddit co-founder who was quick to take a sharp dig at the user. Responding back to him, the 41-year-old wrote, “What’s wild is that you typed that whole tweet out thinking we’d care.” Remember, Ohanian is an ardent supporter of women’s sports and has depicted the same time and again.

Over the past few years, Ohanian has made remarkable efforts with his unconventional investments in several women’s sports. One such example was witnessed at the recently organized Athlos NYC, an all-woman track and field event with a magnanimous prize pool. Remember, athletes from all over the globe competed for a total purse of at least $500,000 in the event, with the winner securing $60,000 in the event, which received direct investment from Ohanian’s venture Seven Seven Six.

Besides, Serena Williams‘ husband also became the co-owner of Los Angeles NWSL team Angel City FC in 2020, a majority shareholding of which now lies with Bob Iger and his wife Willow Bay, and valued at $250 Million. It is probably for these initiatives that Ohanian has been accorded ADWEEK’s Brand Genius Award in September this year for contributing to developing companies and elevating women’s sports to newer heights. Interestingly, Ohanian is not just helping women’s sports through funds and investments, but also by cheering up the athletes, as was witnessed recently at the University of Virginia.

When Alexis Ohanian cheered up female athletes at his alma mater
Alexis Ohanian’s admiration and passion for elevating female athletes has kept him moving. One recent example of this was witnessed on November 5, when the ‘Business Dad’ visited the University of Virginia and engaged in an interaction with female athletes, to motivate them for the sports arena.
In a video that surfaced on Instagram, Ohanian can be seen addressing some female basketball players. At the outset, he lauded the coach of the team and said, “Coach, credit to you too. Their foundation starts here. It’s just so compelling and I see it out there. It’s gonna be a lot of fun to watch this program.” His admiration did not end there. Ohanian further shared remarkable advice while promising to bring about a positive change for female athletes.

Continuing further, Ohanian said, “I will keep doing the work on the court and off the court, will take care of the rest. This is the era of excellence of women in sports. So no matter how you are thinking like ‘how, well, should I do it now,’ like You all DESERVE EVERY BIT OF THIS!” Ohanian also motivated them by saying, “There is a new bar, there is a new standard Accept nothing less.” For now, it would be interesting to see if the X user would respond back to Ohanian’s criticism and if there will be more layers to the latest feud.
