And the same is true for Naomi Osaka, who has been forced to the sidelines ever since she announced her maternity break at the start of the season. Being a 2-time champion at the Australian Open, the Japanese tennis star was “devastated” after she withdrew from one of her favorite tournaments.
However, during this adverse phase, the former world No. 1 drew inspiration from the tennis sisters, Venus and Serena Williams. Reminiscing about the same, the WTA star recently opened up about how she wishes to take a leaf out of the American tennis legend’s book after her comeback on the tour.

A few months ago, the WTA sensation delighted the fans with the news of her newborn daughter, Shai. After embracing motherhood, Osaka is now aiming for a comeback on the tour as she has already missed out on a number of events. Particularly, the Japanese’s withdrawal from the Australian Open was a hurtful one according to her new revelations that came to the public lens on Twitter.
Amidst all her withdrawals in this season, the 4-time singles Grand Slam champion drew inspiration from the Willaims sisters. Despite their fitness issues at the age of 40, Venus and Serena still managed to perform brilliantly on the court. Considering the same, Osaka recently opened up about how she also wants to follow in their footsteps of playing competitive tennis at an older age.
Osaka said, “When I was watching Serena & Venus I was thinking I probably no way will ever play at their age, but sitting here I’m like you know what? I might do that actually”

Osaka might return to the court for her favorite tournament
Given her recent revelations, the Japanese undoubtedly consider the Australian Open as one of her favorite events on the tour. And now Osaka has further decided to pick the Grand Slam event in Melbourne for her comeback on the court. In an interview with ESPN, the WTA superstar was asked whether she would mark her participation in the next season’s major tournament in Melbourne. Osaka answered in the affirmative while she also revealed that she would “ease into” her comeback at the start of the next season.
