Coco Gauff was recently ousted by her doubles partner Jessica Pegula in the 2023 WTA Finals. After she left the tournament, she decided to scroll to ‘X’ and left a comment on a video that showed the troubling weather conditions in Cancun. However, the reply soon turned into a battle as she found herself getting dragged to an off-topic comment from a fan by talking about the negativity of the platform.

The young American sensation has often chastised Elon Musk’s platform as the user base and the features don’t exactly suit her liking. Hence, in the past too, has often made numerous digs at the platform and this time too, the teen sensation didn’t leave her chance behind.

Coco Gauff thrashes X as she clears the air 

A video of the conditions causing troublesome moments went viral on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). The video included many stars struggling with the rain and having to wait a long time to serve because of the winds. Noticing herself in the video many times, Gauff replied ‘lol‘. However, a moment of joy turned sour as one user lambasted her for blocking her fans and that they deserved better treatment. 

In response, she cleared the air about her usage of the platform. Gauff said, “I only block people who are negative not my fans. I don’t search for these pages. it comes on my timeline. when you deal with the daily harassment I deal with every single day. death threats, racism, body shaming. etc. it is exhausting. so I try my best to spare myself.”

The user then replied to her by saying that blocking those who share those comments was understandable, but blocking fans was not a good move. But Gauff was ready to clear out the air.

She replied, “Reason why I stay active on socials is because of my fans. to see their nice comments and support. it keeps me going. twitter is the worst platform. my fans on other socials know I interact with them. I even made a separate tik tok account to interact with my supporters iykyk.“

This is not the first time the US Open champion has talked about the platform formerly known as Twitter in a bad light. She has often taken to social media to vent about her frustrations with it.

Gauff has never really liked X

One can find many instances of the 19-year-old American star criticizing Elon Musk’s platform. Gauff has often found herself being irritated by the rampant changes made to it. When the blue-tick verification changed policies and could be earned by paying a set amount, she said she was not going to pay for it and joked that she didn’t even pay for her Netflix account.

In another instance, she said that she did not like opening her ‘X’ account and spent most of her time on TikTok. Gauff also admitted that she gets most of her information from TikTok, which was not ideal. She does not like ‘X’ and does not attempt to be kind to the platform either, as we can see from her latest interaction with one of its users.
