The argument between Danielle Collins and Maria Sakkari, which erupted into a furious exchange, was an incident that happened during the competition. Although their contentious fight caught the attention of tennis fans, the American tennis star is in no rush to get past the conflict.

Collins recently poked fun at the controversial movement five days after the match, which apparently didn’t sit well with her supporters. Although she started out on the bright side, her recent act consisting of a ridiculing story has literally stoked a lot of animosity towards her in the tennis community.

Just a week ago, a controversy erupted at the Canadian Open as Collins lost her cool in a tense moment when she yelled at her Greek opponent to keep her mouth shut during the match. This controversial event took place in the second round of the Canadian Open. Although the 29-year-old American won the match, she faced the wrath of the tennis fans.

Recently, after the incident, Collins shared an Instagram story from their match, and along with that, she paired it with expletive-filled music in the background. Looking into that, a fan shared the screenshot of the story over his Twitter account and criticized her for pulling down an opponent nearly days after the controversial event. The fan wrote, “Back off, b*tch.”

Tennis fans filled the comment section with criticism regarding how the 34th-ranked tennis player might be hinting at the story to her opponent and calling her by the song’s name.

In no time after the tweet, a fan slammed the tweet, questioning the reason behind the behavior. He wrote, “Absolutely no reason to call your colleague who did nothing heinous a bitch.” 

While the other one pointed out the insignificance, of the story. A fan wrote, “She ended up winning the match, and the actual drama was so insignificant, literally nothing deep, was unjustifiedly rude, and still complaining 5 days later… What’s iconic here exactly?” 

Nevertheless, some of them also slammed her for bringing up this topic again. “Why is she still pressed about it 5 days later…” a fan wrote.

In addition, a fan also made fun of her, by saying that she acted like a “15-year-old kid.” 

Another fan directly called out her criticism and wrote, “Why so mean.” 

Subsequently, a fan also said his take on whether this kind of behavior is normal or not. “This is borderline bipolar. Or just borderline. Or something. But definitely not normal behavior,” he added.

In addition to many critical remarks, tennis fans also wrote numerous doubtful remarks about how their initial fondness for the 29-year-old shifted in the wake of this episode. A fan commented, “That’s why I hate hurrrr.” 

While the other one wrote, “Every time I want to like her, she gives me this.”

Nevertheless, a fan explained her part regarding what actually changed Collins, from their perspective. She wrote, “It’s just not that serious girl oh my god… we’re getting too comfortable as a society w calling women who haven’t done anything that serious bitches istg.”

Collins and Sakkari’s heated verbal argument 

The whole incident started in the second round of the match when the form of Australian Open finalist had to return the ball into play before it was called out as Sakkari. And in frustration, she threw the ball into the crowd, however, the Greek star was quick to issue an apology it wasn’t ready to let go of the act and pointed the problem out to the chair umpire to take action.

In defense of herself, the 28-year-old tennis pro said that the 34th-ranked player told her to keep her mouth quiet even though she hadn’t hit anyone. While this was too much for the former third-ranked tennis player, she lashed out at what was her opponent’s issue. The verbal disputes ceased when the officers did not respond, but the 29-year-old opponent may not be ready to let this go.
