Serena Williams is enjoying her family and entrepreneurial life after revolutionizing tennis. Thus, her records are now in danger of being equaled or surpassed by the current generation stars. It all started with Novak Djokovic equaling the record of Momma Smash’s 23 Slams with his French Open win. A teenager from Russia, Mirra Andreeva now became the highest prize money earner at a younger age than ReRe. Recently, Ons Jabeur, too, equaled another record of Serena, at the Wimbledon Championships.

Jabeur defeated Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon champion, to reach the semi-final. Her streak of scripting history started with this victory and did not stop there. This year’s Wimbledon carries both individual and global importance for Jabeur as the Tunisian became a vital piece of the prestigious Slam’s archives.

‘The Queen of WTA’ was the only one to reach two consecutive semi-finals in the Grass Slam in 2018 and 2019. ReRe even won both of them to proceed to the finals, but lost in both years. Now, the Tunisian player became the only one to match Serena’s record with her previous victory. The quarter-final match between Jabeur and Rybakina was a repeat of 2022’s Wimbledon final.

Jabeur has got her revenge this time, as she defeated the defending Wimbledon champion in three sets. With this victory, she also became the second player after Serena Williams to reach two consecutive Wimbledon semi-finals. The Tunisian then faced the 2nd seed Aryna Sabalenka in the semis and defeated her in a decider set. Though Sabalenka won the first tie-break, she could not hold on to it.

Jabeur defeated the Belarusian in straight sets, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3, making it back-to-back finals appearance at SW19. However, the epic saga still continues. This year’s All-White Slam has been a history in itself, with records being equaled and also broken.

Is 2023 the historic year of the prestigious Slam so far?

Wimbledon this year witnessed some amazing comebacks and new talents with zero expectations. Players like Christopher Eubanks and Daniil Medvedev reached their first quarter-finals of the Grass Slam. Carlos Alcaraz reached his first semi-finals at Wimby. Marketa Vondrousova, with her recent win over Elina Svitolina, became the first unseeded player in the open era to reach the finals of Wimbledon.

On the other hand, Djokovic equaled Roger Federer‘s record of reaching 12 Grass Slam finals. Vondrousova is only next to Serena to reach the finals with the lowest ranking. The Tunisian will face Vondrousova in a never-before-witnessed final. The Ukranian, too, started this tournament without any expectations and made it to the finals.
