Chris Evert ruled the court in the 1970s and 80s. On her tennis journey, she has faced many tough battles against many skilled players. The biggest rivalries in her career have been Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf. However, her most formidable competitor turned out to be her illness. Evert was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and faced many rounds of chemotherapy and the symptoms that come due to it. She had stage 1 Ovarian cancer and was helped by many, including her sister, who passed away due to the same issues in 2020.
Chris Evert received help from ex-husband Andy Mill
In an interview with PBS, Evert explained what she experienced during chemotherapy and how her ex-husband helped her. Evert had six chemotherapy appointments in total and was taken to each appointment by her ex-husband Andy Mill. She further went on to say she would experience nausea and fatigue. The issues persisted for approximately five days, and then she would have periods of two weeks where she would feel normal. During this time, she would carry out her normal schedule, such as exercising and going to her tennis academy.

“Andy, my former husband, took me to all six chemos, and we just, you know, he was really supportive. I had that for like five days, and then I would have two weeks of feeling okay. And I could go to my tennis academy and coach and, and I could do pretty much normal things. So I feel very lucky.” she told PBS in an interview about her battle with cancer.
