After minting a calm $30M in prize money and lucrative endorsements, Coco Gauff is back in her hometown in Delray Beach. As the offseason brings an opportunity to reconnect with family, Gauff’s childbirth memories have been brought up by one of her family members. Gauff’s baby shower event had a tense, yet happy ending.
Gauff’s mother, Candi, had a hard time keeping up with Gauff’s baby shower commitment due to an unexpected twist. It was to be hosted by Coco’s grandmother Yvonne Lee Odomo. But before the family could commence celebrations, as luck would have it, Candi’s water broke and she was rushed to the hospital. The 2023 Flushing Meadows champion was born days ahead of the expected delivery date at the West Boca Medical on March 13, 2004.
Candi’s cousin Chenay Lowe narrated the incident, saying: “We still had the baby shower at Mrs. Odom’s house while Candi was in the hospital. It was too late to cancel the shower.” But who is Chenay Lowe? The Palm Beach Post reported that Yvonne Lee Odomo’s sister is Brenda Williams, and Williams’ granddaughters are Cassidy and Courtney Lowe, Coco’s cousins. Chenay Lowe is Cassidy and Courtney’s mother.

Talking about Coco Gauff’s time on the court, she had a fabulous ending to her campaign this year. She started the season strong, reaching the semifinals at the Australian Open but later, experienced a sharp drop in form. This particularly stemmed from her serving woes. She continued firing a plethora of double faults during contests at the North American hardcourt swing and the aftermath wasn’t pretty. Gauff couldn’t defend her title in Cincinnati or New York. Hoping to remedy her service concerns, the young talent parted ways with coach Brad Gilbert.
She introduced technique correction specialist Matt Daly to her team and before fans knew it, Gauff showcased notable improvement. She emerged victorious in China and continued a healthy winning streak until she put her hands on her maiden WTA Finals title in Riyadh. With a successful conclusion to the year, the 20-year-old is back home but has maintained her social media traction as intriguing stories about her continue to hit the shelves.

In a post-match presser at the WTA Finals, Gauff told reporters: “I lost a pretty tough match against Emma [Navarro] at US Open. A lot of people were critiquing my season, you know, ‘Flop era.’ I know all the Twitter terms. “I think for me it was just motivation. I’m the author of my own story, and I’m not going to let anybody write me off.”
