Serena Williams is all set to enthrall her fans for one last time. Next week, the American legend will participate in the US Open, which will be the final tournament of her professional career. The entire tennis world has been praising the 23-time Grand Slam champion for her extraordinary career. Joining others in honoring Serena was none other than the legendary Chris Evert.

The younger Williams sister, apart from her incredible on-court performances, has strongly batted for equality in society. On numerous occasions, she raised her voice against the gender pay gap in sports and prevalent racial inequality.

As the 23-time Grand Slam champion nears retirement, Evert took this opportunity to laud Serena’s all-round efforts during her illustrious career. She said, “She has never set any limits in tennis or in life. To get that message across to everybody, I think, is very powerful.”
Further, she added, “And she really has spoken her mind… and she has so many platforms, from the body shaming, to working moms, to women of color, and just empowering women.”

Talking about Serena empowering millions of people across the globe, Evert said, “That message, off the court, to me and maybe to millions of people, is more profound and more powerful than even what she’s done on the court.”

Subsequently, the 67-year-old also opened up about Serena’s chances in the final tournament of her career. Although Evert said that it would be tough for Serena to move past the first week of the US Open, she maintained that it would be wrong to underestimate her.
