However, one interesting thing baffled many fans when Serena first entered the court. It seemed like she taped some black patches on her right cheek. Fans couldn’t figure out what they were, but we may have an answer now.

The mystery of Serena Williams’ black patches

Since yesterday’s match, many fans were speculating about the black tapes or patches on Serena’s face. One fan on Twitter wrote, “Apparently kinesiology tape for a sinus issue, to help relieve pressure.”

Notably, a kinesiology tape can help you recover from a soft tissue injury or pain. Generally, any person can use this sort of tape to maintain their body health and energy without going through medication or surgery. It can also last for three to four days.

While one fan suggested this, many others seemed to have no clue about the mysterious tape. The Columnist of USA Today Sports, Dan Wolken, wrote, “Serena Williams appears to have two large black bandages or some type of tape on her face. No idea what that’s about.”

One Twitter user wrote, “Singles, doubles, mixed-doubles, whatever. I just love seeing Serena play. I can’t be the only one that is not curious about the black tape on Serena’s face.”

“Yes, one of the guys in her team put the tape on her face… no idea why,” another fan on Twitter wrote.

In the first set during the doubles match, she did not look like her usual self, as she lost it 6-2.
