It was the night of the women’s doubles final of the US Open 2021 and fans witnessed a really intriguing encounter there. Facing Samantha Stosur and Zhang Shuai, the American pair of Coco Gauff and Caty McNally suffered a defeat and failed to win the Grand Slam title. The final scoreline of the match was 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Stosur and Shuai began the set on a high note as they won the first game quite easily. However, Gauff and McNally equalized the scoreline at 1-1 in the very next game.

The one who served continued to win the game until and unless the scoreline became 3-3. Even though the American pair earned a break-point due to an amazing forehand by World No.38 Gauff, they failed to capitalise on it.

It was Stosur and Shuai who finally broke in the eighth game and took their lead to 5-3. Serving for the set, they didn’t make any mistake and won the set 6-3 in 31 minutes.

Set-2: Brilliant comeback by Coco Gauff and Caty McNally
Gauff and McNally began the set on a high note this time as they established a 1-0 lead after the first set. They also saved a break-point in the third set and took their lead to 2-1. However, they once again failed to break past Stosur and Shuai and as a result, the scoreline reached 2-2.

Nobody managed to break in the next two games as well and the scoreline reached 3-3. However, after some exceptional gameplay by Gauff and McNally, they finally broke past Stosur and Shuai in the eighth game and were now leading 5-3.
Serving for the set, Gauff sealed the set for the American pair. They won it 6-3 after working hard for 42 minutes.

Even though Stosur and Shuai lost the last set, they didn’t lost their momentum. They Gott off to a great start and won the first game quite easily. However, Gauff and McNally bounced back and leveled the scoreline at 1-1.

Both the pairs failed to break past each other yet again until Stosur and Shuai finally converted a break-point in the eighth game. They were leading 5-3 at this moment and were just one game away from winning the US Open 2021 title.

Serving for the trophy, the two won the game easily and conquered the set 6-3. Thus, they emerged as the winners of the match and bagged the title in New York.
