Belinda Bencic, the Swiss tennis professional, recently claimed her sixth title at Charleston Open and is currently gearing up for the clay-based Grand Slam. The 2021 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist’s last noteworthy performance at French Open was in 2013 girls singles. However, in the case of WTA, she is yet to reach the fourth round.
Further, with the Grand Slam at the doorstep, she sat down for an interview with the Tennis Channel. And her words revealed that she indeed is one of the wisest WTA players. While there maybe players, who keep pushing even when their body demands rest. However, the 25-year-old believes in taking proper breaks. Thus, avoiding injuries, unwanted loss of form, and also getting a chance to catch up with her close ones.

Belinda Bencic Speaks About Her Preferred Way of Playing
In the interview with Kamau Murray, Belinda addressed why breaks are important to her and how it helps her maintain her form. As she said, “If I play well, if I am healthy, I am at this level.” Thereafter, she spoke about her way of participating in the events. “Three tournaments in a row, maximum. Yeah, that’s my limit. The best would be two and go back train. But sometimes it’s not possible like there was Indian Wells-Miami- Charleston now.”
Further, she added, “I mean, I feel a bit more for American Players and Australian players. They have to come for whole like swing. And they cannot go back home that easily. Like I would say with European players, it is a little bit easier. We just have Miami, Charleston and then maybe Cincinnati or Montreal, Toronto, Cincinnati, Us Open, and then you go home. I mean tricky. Everyone has to figure out. But for me, I need to go home.”

Some Interesting Facts About Bencic
The former World No.4 started playing tennis at a very early age. At first, her father tutored her, following which Melanie Molitor, Martina Hingis’ mother, stepped to train the girl daily. Further, Bencic has multiple citizenships. As her father is from Bratislava, her mother is from Slovakia, and she was born in Switzerland.

Speaking of her game, in 2019 she became the first Swiss tennis player to reach US Open semifinals since 2001. Also, is one of the few players who have defeated the 23 times Grand Slam champion Serena Williams. Further, in her early days, she got the better of players such as Naomi Osaka and Angelique Kerber. And even had a lead in head-to-head records.
