Iga Swiatek has had a memorable 2022 season. Her year can be divided into two halves. In the first half of the season, she smashed record books and was an epitome of consistency. The Polish tennis star won the French Open along with numerous other titles. Additionally, she became the top-ranked player in women’s singles.

However, since her winning run came to an end at Wimbledon, Swiatek hasn’t been able to replicate the success that she had earlier in the season. Last month, she had third-round exits in Toronto and Cincinnati.

The 21-year-old is currently in New York where she is participating in the US Open. She has reached the quarterfinals of the tournament. However, she wasn’t happy with the balls at the tournament and made her displeasure felt.

Iga Swiatek criticizes the 2022 US Open tennis balls

During an interview, the Polish tennis star strongly voiced her opinion against the tennis balls at this year’s US Open. She said, “I think those balls are horrible. Especially after three games of really hard playing, they are getting more and more light.”

Further, she added, “At the end, you can’t even serve 170 kilometers per hour because you know it’s going to fly like crazy. Yeah, I think they are pretty bad. Sorry.”

Talking about increasing mistakes from these balls, Iga Swiatek said, “Right now we play powerful, and we kind of can’t loosen up our hands with these balls. I know that there are many players who complain, and many of them are top 10. We make more mistakes, for sure. So I don’t think that’s really nice to watch.”

Who will Swiatek face in the US Open quarterfinals?

Later today, World Number 1 and top seed, Swiatek will face the local favorite, Jessica Pegula for a place in the US Open semifinals. The two have faced off against each other thrice before. Swiatek has managed to win on two of these occasions.
