He said, “You know, over the last 10 years, the bay charge Foundation, we’ve given away over $3 million in college scholarships, our job is to pay it forward and make this world a better place. And so it’s about creating an atmosphere of inspiration for people to say, You know what, I can do that, when you see that in your mind. It’s amazing what you can accomplish.” 

To which, Ohanian answered, “Yes, it’s that legacy I hope my kids know me for because I do think a lot about that. And the work that I do now and the places I spend my time because you’re right, they’re always paying attention.”

The 40-year-old businessman discussed his attempts to shield his kids from the spotlight earlier this year, stressing the value of fostering a strong sense of self-worth separate from their parents’ notoriety. He talked about how important it is to him that his children feel appreciated for who they are as individuals and not for the fame of their parents.

A few months ago, the co-founder of Reddit reaffirmed this point, emphasizing that he wanted his kids to grow up with a healthy and grounded upbringing and realize their own value and potential. Alexis Ohanian stated, “The thing I know I wanted to shield them from was this idea that they are special just because of who their parents are. They are special, but for other reasons. Reasons of their own accounting and agency.”

Along with that, he added, “I want to build a legacy for my children,” to that message.
