The entire tennis community has often been enthralled with Serena Williams‘ and her mesmerizing antics from the moment she made her mark on the WTA Tour. Since then, the 41-year-old has achieved a number of major titles by outshining great players during various tournaments. During these Grand Slam events, Williams was also embroiled in a number of controversies.
One such incident happened when she was playing in the US Open finals against the Japanese tennis star, Naomi Osaka. Somehow that match became a major talking point as the Queen of the Court was involved in an outburst after she received a coaching violation from the umpire. The controversial incident also caught the attention of the American actress, Kerry Washington who later backed Williams by slamming her male counterparts including John McEnroe.

The renowned American actress was previously featured in an interview with Access Hollywood in which she was asked about her opinion on the Serena Williams’ US Open controversy. Williams, who faced a defeat in the match, was also fined a hefty amount because of her rude behavior with the umpire Carlos Ramos. Taking note of that, Kerry Washington was asked if she thought those fines were unfair to the American tennis legend.
She answered in the defense of both the tennis superstars as she thought that the incident was a travesty for them. Kerry said, “I think what happened to Serena is such a travesty, both of those girls, I feel like they were both robbed of the joy of what that day could have really been.”

In the process, she also slammed their male counterparts including the American tennis legend, John McEnroe. taking note of the ATP players and their past controversial antics, Kerry said that she thinks that those men should also pay such hefty fines.
She reiterated while mentioning the name of the ATP legend, “I mean, the things that McEnroe has said on the court, all of these men who are out there with these expletives.”
Williams, on the other hand, has always thanked her American actress friend for her constant support throughout her remarkable journey on the court. Even when she was awarded the Jackie Robinson Sports Award, the 41-year-old tennis legend mentioned Kerry.
