The Murray family has always been one of the more outspoken families in tennis. Right from Judy and Jamie Murray to Andy Murray, all have been outspoken members of the tennis fraternity. Andy Murray especially is known for being an advocate for women’s tennis. His association with women’s tennis and women’s athletes makes him an admirable personality.
While celebrating the 50th anniversary of WTA’s formation, Judy Murray spoke at length about women’s tennis and its progression over the years. She hailed her son Andy for his constant support towards WTA. Judy Murray also revealed who she counted on to be the flag bearers of women’s tennis in the upcoming years.

Judy Murray believes that outspoken figures are likely to make a difference. She rests her faith on Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka for this purpose. She said via Eurosport, “I think they’ve been absolutely brilliant (Osaka and Gauff) because the younger generation identify with them and they will listen to them, they speak the same language, they live in the same world. I think it is about standing out for what you believe in and not being afraid to speak up and rock the boat.”
Those were some serious words from Judy Murray for the two tennis icons. But, given the history of these two players, it is safe to say that Murray has picked the two commendable candidates. While Osaka has often stood against injustice and raised her voice, Gauff is not far behind on this aspect either.
When Gauff spoke against unfair treatment in Madrid
Gauff featured in the women’s doubles final at the Mutua Madrid Open back in May. After the final, none of the four women were allowed to speak during the trophy ceremony. Gauff and her partner Jessica Pegula were dejected. Even the winning pair of Victoria Azarenka and Beatriz Haddad Maia were not given mics. Gauff was the first among the players to raise her voice and speak against the unfair treatment.
Wasn’t given the chance to speak after the final today:( But thank you to the fans for supporting us and women’s tennis this week! Thanks @JLPegula for always keeping it fun on the court and hitting unreal clutch shots hahahaha Lastly, big congratulations Vika and Bia 🎉💗
