Tennis great Carla Suarez Navarro had a wonderful tenure of 17 years in professional tennis. However, even after giving so much of her time to tennis, life had different plans for her. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, which forced her to retire from tennis. But she did not give up that easily. As the landscape of her life changed with the diagnosis, she adapted and recently, gave her fans a rare glimpse into her personal side.

Navarro wanted to make sure that if she retired from tennis, it should be on her own terms and not because of an illness. So, she resolutely continued with her treatment and finally beat the deadly disease. Post that, she played for one last season before choosing to retire. In an interview, she revealed how life post-retirement has been for her.

With almost 500 match wins over a decorated career, Navarro had the time of her life on the court. But cancer posed a challenge in her life. However, she did not lose hope and continued her journey on the WTA tour. Finally, after she became cancer-free, she played for another year, covered some important tournaments, and chose to retire.

After retiring, having a family was all that she had on her mind. Recently, Navarro shared how her life has been going on. “Having a family is beautiful,” Suarez Navarro said. “At the same time, it’s very demanding because you have to commit 24/7. But it’s an experience I would recommend to everyone. Right now, they just eat and sleep, everything is very easy. I can’t wait to see them walking and talking. I will be very busy then.”

Navarro and her partner had twin daughters Noa and Ona in June. She is thoroughly enjoying her time and spending it taking care of her kids and being a full-time mom. They are raising their kids in Spain and are loving every moment of it. Further, Navarro also shared what her plans are with regard to tennis.

Navarro claims not being in touch with the tennis side of her life

During the same interview, she was asked about how much tennis she has played after getting retired. To that, she responded that she had not played professionally at all. She also mentioned how she has only picked up a racquet twice or thrice after leaving the sport.

However, one thing that she added to her statement was that she would love to teach her daughters tennis someday as they grow old. But even though that is something that time will spell out, surely her daughters have a resilient mother to guide them along.
