23-time Grand Slam winner, Serena Williams is no doubt one of the greatest female tennis players of all time if not the greatest. Her consistency level on the tour was simply incredible and probably no one will ever match her level in this current era. Lately, she has been suffering from a lot of injuries, which is why we don’t see her on the tour that often.
Earlier, the American has decided to withdraw from the Australian Open due to an injury. She hasn’t played a single match since her injury in the first round of Wimbledon 2021. Recently, 18-time Grand Slam singles title winner Martina Navratilova talked about the comeback of Serena and how that will impact the tour.

Martina Navratilova talks about Serena Williams
One of the legends of the game, Martina Navratilova, recently said that other players may respect Serena but they don’t fear her anymore. She also emphasized the fact that Serena is also getting older and it will be really difficult for her to return to the previous level.
Martina said, “Everything gets more difficult as we get older, and not having played for this long, for Serena it’s getting more and more tricky. Other players, they have respect for Serena, obviously for all the right reasons, but they are not scared of her anymore. They will play their best tennis and believe that they can beat her. ”

What’s next for Serena?
Serena Williams has been chasing her dream of catching Margaret Court’s 24th Grand Slam title since 2017. Since then, she has reached many Grand Slam finals but fell short of her dream. She has also been suffering from various injuries and hasn’t played a single match since last year’s Wimbledon.

The injury also forced her from taking part in last year’s US Open and the last time she missed US Open was in 2017. After withdrawing from the Australian Open, she will look to make a comeback in May at the French Open. However, she will probably need to play a qualifying match before playing in the main draw of the French Open. The path will not be easy for Serena to reach her goal; if she can stay fit, she will definitely achieve her dream.
