The current geopolitical situation in eastern Europe is extremely tense and many players in the ATP and WTA circuits have reacted in various ways. Ukrainian players on the tour have not only had a tough time dealing with the aftermath of the situation in their home country.Many efforts have been made by not only the Ukrainian players but others too from the Tennis circuit.

Elina Svitolina has been very vocal
Svitolina is a top player from Ukraine for quite some time. Recently she posted a very passionate plea about the players on the tour speaking up about the current situation. She said that players from Russia and Belarus, who oftentimes have more fan following than some of the top leaders in the world. And hence, should be more vocal about what’s going on in Ukraine. She urged the governing bodies to take action regarding the same. Svitolina also said that being silent when it is most important to speak up, is a grave offense indeed!

The former World No 3 posted a lengthy message on her social media profiles. “On 24th February 2022, Russia, with the support of Belarus, attacked Ukraine. Now there is a war in our country, in our home. All Ukrainians are forced to leave their homes and fight for their lives,” she said.
The message was shared by other Ukrainian players like Marta Kostyuk. This comes especially after Wimbledon issued a statement banning all Russian players from taking part in the tournament, as a mark of protest against Russia.
Svitolina’s heartfelt initiative for Ukraine

Elina Svitolina in the initial days of the conflict made a heartfelt promise to her community back home. She pledged that she will be distributing her earnings for humanitarian aid and military efforts in Ukraine. It has indeed been quite a turbulent and emotional time for her.

Not only her, but other Ukrainian players in the circuit also had to go through a lot; due to the situation in their home country. For example, Sergiy Stakhovsky and Alexandr Dolgopolov have registered for the Ukrainian army and Dayana Yastremska; fled the country with her sister, has also pledged to donate her earnings to humanitarian efforts!
