Serena Williams has had her fair share of on-court debacles. Some have been noticed and then their hype died down. But some stayed. Chris Evert considered the whole incident as a negative point for the sport and something which did not shed a good light on tennis.

Chris Evert condemned the incident at the finals of the US Open 2018
The 23-time grand slam champion had gotten into a ruffle with the chair umpire back in 2018. It was because the umpire had noticed Patrick Mouratoglou coaching Williams through some hand gestures. The player denied it and the outburst led her to get a game penalty as well as a huge fine.
The whole incident had made the venue a place of commotion. Mouratoglou had a different perspective regarding this. He said, “It was horrible for us and Serena.” However, he commended the moment for tennis. He said, “It was fantastic for tennis. That was the best moment in tennis in 10 years. You want passion.”

Tennis legend Chris Evert, however, outrightly was against this notion. She said, “I don’t agree with that at all.” She added, “Yes, it got a lot of exposure. So do other bad things that happen in the world.” Moreover, she did not see it in a positive light and said, “I don’t think it was good for tennis, the integrity of the game.”
