Serena Williams’ childhood coach, Rick Macci recently dropped some exclusive statements in a podcast while speaking about the Djokovic and Alcaraz match following Alcaraz’s unfamiliar gesture. In this context, Macci brings the reference to Maria Sharapova, the world’s former number-one female tennis star, whom he coached during her childhood.

Sharapova also received her early training from Macci during her teenage days. While speaking about the mental factor, Macci reveals- “So I start with the mental early on. And I talk to the kids about going into the fence, taking the towel 20 seconds, flip it in your mind, it happened 20 years ago.”

 This is the moment when he mentioned- “that’s what I loved about Sharapova, I’m telling you, it freaked me out. To this day. I never had a young player, right, there every point, even though there were holes in the movement and the forehand. It was scary.”
