Venus Williams didn’t get off to a great start in the 2021 season. She got eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open 2021 and unlike her sister Serena Williams, she hasn’t been able to enjoy good form. She’ll soon begin a clay-court campaign soon and will look forward to getting some wins under her belt there.
In a recent video, Venus Williams was going through all her sports outfits that she’s worn in her career. She was recollecting her memories and surprisingly found out the outfit that she wore at the US Open 2002 too!
Interestingly, it was also the first time when she faced her sister Serena Williams in the finals of the US Open.

“That’s 2002 US Open (pointing to the outfit). That’s the first time Serena and I played in the US Open final against each other. That was the first time of many,” said Venus in the video.
Even after 18 years, Venus hasn’t forgotten the time she faced her sister for the first time at the US Open; the memories remain well-preserved. Moreover, it was certainly the beginning of the era of dominance of the two sisters in the sport.
“At one time, we ended up playing five Grand Slams finals in a row against each other. That’s the dream. That’s all I can say,” added the 7-time Grand Slam champion.
Serena Williams v Venus Williams: Head-to-Head
The Williams’ sisters have faced off each other a total of 31 times in their careers so far. Interestingly, the younger sister Serena leads the battle 19-12. They first met in the round of 64 at the Australian Open 1998, in which Venus conquered Serena in straight sets.

The two encountered each other in the final of the French Open 2002 and continued to clash in the finals of Majors till Wimbledon 2003. What was completely terrific was that Serena managed to win all the 5 Grand Slam finals in this period.
Four years back, Serena and Venus again met in the final of the Australian Open 2017 where Serena lifted her 23rd Grand Slam title. Their last encounter was at the Rome Masters 2019, where Venus emerged victorious.

Both Serena and Venus are true ambassadors of the sport. They both are inspirations to many youngsters and have taken tennis to a new level. Moreover, they have both exhibited mind-boggling longevity in the sport, which is apparent just looking at their rivalry over the years.
