Barbora Krejcikova's Wimbledon proposal—romantic or too much? What do you think?

Besides baffling her opponents on the court, Barbora Krejcikova displayed another entertaining talent: teasing her fans. Krejcikova’s social media is as unpredictable and thrilling as her matches. Just like her stellar performance at the All England Club this season, the Czech tennis sensation has kept her social media buzzing, with her latest post has sparking rumors about her relationship yet again.

Recently, Krejcikova joined in to have some fun as rain played spoilsport. Taking to her Twitter, the 28-year-old participated in a Q&A session as she waited out yet another rain delay at this year’s Championships that affected her doubles match with Laura Siegemund on Tuesday, July 9. She answered a couple of questions, which led to a variety of speculations in the tennis community, including her relationship status with her team member, Pavel Motl.

Krejcikova had finished the Q&A but restarted it upon requests from several fans. As soon as the window was open, a user was quick to reignite the conversation of her relationship with Pavel. “Will Pavel propose to you if you win Wimbledon? 🥰” Known for her cheekiness, the 28-year-old once again gave a speculative reply. Pavel says he hasn’t thought about it yet but he thanks for the idea!” This has once again fueled speculations about the tennis star dating her coach, Pavel Motl.

Previously, when a fan questioned her about her relationship status with Pavel, Krejcikova gave a cheeky reply and asked, “What do you think?” The fan was quick to respond and wrote, “Yes because love always wins.” What followed from the 2021 French Open Winner was yet another cryptic response as she said, “I guess we’ll never know now…will we?” Interestingly, a similar trend followed on Friday.

Several fans took to X and assumed that the tennis star had confirmed her relationship. But who exactly is Pavel? Motl joined Krejcikova’s coaching team after her previous coach, Ales Kartus, departed. Although their friendship dates back to childhood, their professional partnership began last August when Motl transitioned from hitting partner to coach. A graduate in psychology and sports management from the University of Tennessee, Motl was a student-athlete who first met Krejcikova during a junior tournament. Their shared tennis journey continued as training partners, laying the groundwork for their current collaboration.

There is one thing that Pavel admires the most about Barbora Krejcikova. “She’s (Krejcikova) a real fighter, but she can be stubborn. Sometimes it’s hard to work with such a character, sometimes it’s easy.” Motl said about the player he guides. However, he revealed that he enjoys working with her because she’s “very smart” and “very experienced.” Motl believes their strong connection is a good fit, but he avoids labeling himself as a traditional coach.

For him, tennis is a lifelong journey, whether as a player or a mentor. Despite knowing each other since childhood, the specifics of their professional partnership remain unclear. When asked about their roles, Motl clarified in a Tennis World interview that they collaborate on tennis matters but don’t operate in a strict coach-player dynamic.

Speaking after defeating Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals, Krejcikova revealed, “I feel I had to improve everything.” She elaborated on the fact and highlighted the necessity that forced her to upskill herself. “I think I definitely got better on faster surfaces. I feel like I had to develop my game because everybody else is developing their game, too. It’s great that it looks like I made some progress, that I’m in another final.”

As Wimbledon draws to a close soon, it will be fascinating to see if the changed attitude and skills can help Krejcikova clinch yet another slam and her first on the green surface.
