Shocking news coming in from the tennis world! Czech tennis star, Marketa Vondrousova is reportedly getting divorced after just two years of her marriage to the love of her life. Vondrousova and Stepan Simek had been engaged since the 2020 Olympics. But the couple got married on 16 July 2022 at the Chateau Mcely, a resort in the Czech Republic. They have been living together in Prague for the past few years. Everyone is now in utter disbelief at the turn of fortunes with this beautiful couple.
Recently, in an interview with Blesk, Vondrousova stated, “It just didn’t work out for us. Now we are formally resolving the divorce, but we have agreed on everything.” Fans are now recalling those moments from the past when Simek was seen in tears after seeing Marketa Vondrousova’s emphatic triumph at Wimbledon in 2023. They have known each other since their childhood days. Stepan Simek was often seen in the stands supporting Vondrousova during her matches.

Interestingly, Simek also used to play tennis a few years ago but unlike Vondrousova, he stopped playing way before he reached a professional level. According to the ITF, he has played some junior-level matches in 2012,2014 and 2015. He has played 13 matches in total and has won 6 out of them. As per several reports, Simek currently works as an IT Project manager for multinational firm CGI.
Marketa Vondrousova won her first Grand Slam title almost twelve months after their wedding, which was a historic moment in her career. She became the first unseeded player to win the Wimbledon title in the Open Era. Even Simek got a bit emotional after her emphatic triumph and Vondrousova spoke about that moment in her post-match interview.

During the post-match interview, Marketa Vondrousova said, “He’s like this all the time. I think when I came to the box, he cried, I saw him after, and he cried a lot. I think that’s the first emotion I saw him over the eight years (smiled).” She further went on to add, “I think he cried on the wedding day also, but that was it for the eight years, so… That’s it.”
Marketa Vondrousova has often reflected on the role Simek has played over the years while taking care of their cat, Frankie. She even had to call a cat sitter once in order to have the support of her partner from the stands, during one of the most crucial games of her career. Stepan Simek has always been the biggest supporter of the 24-year-old Czech tennis star. This news surely and certainly came like a bolt from the blue to all her fans.
