Iga Swiatek’s journey lately has been anything but smooth. Following her quarterfinal exit at the US Open and her surprising split from longtime coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, Swiatek stayed off the courts for an extended stretch. Fans were eager to see her comeback at the WTA Finals, but despite a valiant effort and only one loss, she narrowly missed out on the semi-finals. And now, tennis expert Tomasz Wolfke is adding fuel to the fire with some revealing insights, shedding light on Swiatek’s recent struggles and making some truly bold claims.
The Polish tennis expert engaged in an interaction with Sport.pl and deliberated on a wide range of aspects related to Iga Swiatek and her latest performance. He highlighted that while the star player has returned to action, her challenges still seem to take center stage in her life, and claimed that she struggled immensely to cope with her emotional problems.
Speaking in the interview, Wolfke said, “We will probably never know why she did not play for two months.” Remember, the former World No. 1 decided to miss out on the entirety of the Asian Swing which also took away her ranking thereby placing Aryna Sabalenka in the top spot. Continuing further, Wolfke claimed that she faced additional concerns. “She clearly had some emotional problems. I hope that this is the last such break, because the tennis calendar is brutal and you have to play for 10 months a year.” However, the tennis expert is elated over the fact that Swiatek would be back on the courts yet again soon.

“I am glad that Iga will start in the tournament after two years of absence,” Wolfke added while talking about the Billie Jean King Cup, scheduled to begin on November 13. Earlier, Swiatek took to her social media and announced that she would participate in the tournament after missing it in 2022 and 2023. “See you in Malaga! I’m happy to announce that I will play in the BJKC Finals. I’m glad that I’ll play for my country and proudly represent Poland. Together with team Poland we will give our best on the court,” the star player announced. Wolfke’s concerns come at a time when Swiatek is indeed facing some difficulties.

In an interaction after losing the match, Swiatek said, “I think that a person is not able to create such an atmosphere during training, even though I trained for several weeks at a high level, as during a match. Some things have to be worked through only on the court.” Continuing further, she shared that “after the match with Krejcikova, I thought that I had prepared myself physically and mentally and that when I go out today, I would have what I usually have – concentration and discipline. But that was not entirely the case.”
For now, it would be interesting to see if the Polish star could return to her dominant form in the Billie Jean King Cup and help her country win remarkably in the tournament.
