It has been quite an eventful past few months in the life of Elina Svitolina. In October last year, she gave birth to her first child with Gael Monfils. Subsequently, she returned to the court and resumed practicing earlier this year. After being out of action for more than a year, Svitolina made a comeback at the Charleston Open in April. She has had a successful return to tennis and that has enabled her to earn a prestigious WTA award.

Just before the French Open, Svitolina won the WTA 500 title in Strasbourg. Further, she made it to the last eight at Roland Garros. That, combined with a semifinal finish at the Wimbledon Championships, ensured Svitolina’s successful return after becoming a mother.

Earlier today, it was announced that the WTA star, Svitolina, has been voted as the best comeback in the 2023 season. She won the Comeback of the Year award, pipping the likes of Marketa Vondrousova and Alexander Zverev by a comfortable margin. It is a well-deserved win for the Ukrainian star, who is back in the top 25 of the WTA rankings.

While Svitolina won 45.8% of the votes, Vondrousova and Zverev could manage only 19.8% and 14.2% votes, respectively. Despite winning the Wimbledon Championships on her comeback, Vondrousova couldn’t get past Svitolina for the prestigious award. Meanwhile, Zverev won 2 ATP titles this year, in addition to a consistent run of form in other tournaments.

The Comeback of the Year award comes as a major boost to Svitolina, who gave her all on the tennis court. She put in the hard work and was determined to make it big as a mother. The win will surely inspire her to perform even better next season.
