Taylor Townsend spent weeks battling on the tennis court for trophies, but nothing compared to life’s biggest gift at home, her son Adyn. Last December, after the tour’s long stretch, when the WTA star made her way back home, she had a gala time with her son, and she humorously even went to the extent of saying Adyn’s backhand could be as good as Jannik Sinner one day. Well, who knows? The fun was, however, short-lived as the mother-son duo fell ill soon after. Fast forward to this Valentine’s Day and Townsend’s 3-year-old son was back to being his energized self with a gift for his mother as well, a handmade card covered in glitter and hearts. Although a simple gesture, it carried the volume of Adyn’s love. Now, with another cherishing moment, Townsend has highlighted her eccentric bond with her son.
Townsend’s 2025 started well, with her second doubles GS victory in Melbourne with Katerina Siniakova. Although her form dipped a little bit thereafter, as she couldn’t make much of a mark in the Singapore Tennis Open, Abu Dhabi Open, or Qatar Open, her luck blossomed in the Dubai Tennis Championships, where she lifted the WTA 1000 doubles trophy with her steady Czech doubles partner. Post-victory, Townsend took a hectic 26-hour flight home to be reunited with her baby boy. The flight was surely tiring for the WTA star, but the reward afterward was worth it.
Upon returning, she shared a reel on her IG story cherishing a sunny afternoon with her adorable boy and two dogs in the park. Townsend’s story featured a funny moment with her son, who was spotted riding a toy police car. As Adyn set his stylish glasses, his talented mom jokingly said, “Let me see the frames?” However, little Adyn seemed unbothered by his mother’s reaction and continued his fun. The WTA star shared the reel with two laughing emojis that perfectly showcased her satisfaction while speeding time with her son at home.

Townsend, who once admitted to not wanting to have children, now feels glad to have a son like Adyn. She believes her motherhood journey motivated her on a different level, especially on accountability. “Being a mother to Adyn also has given me a large amount of accountability. Me looking at my son’s eyes and telling him, Hey, I’m leaving, but I’m going to come back with a trophy, I mean that sh-t. I mean that with everything in me because my word is everything to me, and that’s what I teach him. Say what you mean, mean what you say. And so I keep those words, and I keep the way that he looks at me, and I see that, and it drives me, and it motivates me in a different way that I had never had in my entire life,” she said in an interview with Essence.
Townsend welcomed her son in 2021, and since then she knows well how difficult it is to balance motherhood responsibilities with professional commitments. But, the American is open about it. She often chooses to lay bare her heart about her challenges.

Taylor Townsend confirms suffering from “mom guilt” from time to time
In an interview with Essence magazine, dated 13th February 2025, Townsend said, “I do have mom guilt. It’s kind of changed and transformed over time. The way that I kind of handle that is I honestly just go in nature, or I want to be around animals. I just love being outside. I also dive heavily into the self-care. So I’ll go get a massage, go get something. I love doing skincare. I like trying new products and all that stuff.” However, the journey didn’t start as smoothly as it seems to be now.
Adding to her earlier statement, Townsend continued, “But in the beginning, I really internalized it a lot because I had guilt about being gone. Then I had guilt about coming back and not having enough time with my son in comparison to how much I was gone. So I used to try and overcompensate or make up for that, and it was so stressful. So for me, also, one of the things that I do now, I really focus on quality time over quantity.”
For Townsend, her struggles helped her evolve as a person and eventually become a better mom too. “I’m really enjoying the time I try to use these opportunities to grow as a person so I come back and I’m able to instill certain lessons in him or certain realizations that I’ve maybe come to while I’ve been gone to help me to be a better mom to him. I’m enjoying it. It is never easy being away from my son, especially for so long. I miss him. I try to talk to him every day, but these time changes are crazy,” she concluded.
