Simona Halep overcame an action-packed battle in the first round of Western and Southern Open. The two-time grand slam champion played a beautiful game of tennis against an impressive Magda Linette and sealed her first win since May. The three-set thriller ended with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in two hours and 10 minutes.
The three-time Western and Southern Open runner-up, Halep, fought her way through injury during the match with the strength of her fans. The rain delay gave her the time to rest, come back, and bag the third set.

After suffering from a calf muscle tear, Simona, who is grateful to being back on the court, feels confident about her game and looks forward to challenges.

Simona Halep has always been a fan favorite. She has had difficulties in her career, but the support has always been the same. After being sidelined for the last three months, she spoke about the support she received in her first match at Cincinnati.

What’s ahead of Simona Halep?
Last week, Halep returned into action but lost in the second round of the Canadian Open. Now, in the next round, the 29-year-old faces either Camila Giorgi (the recently crowned Montreal Champion) or Jessica Pegula, who is having the best season of her career so far.
