Did fate just hand Taylor Townsend a golden ticket to doubles glory at Wimbledon?

America’s Taylor Townsend has made it to the Wimbledon doubles finals for the first time! While Townsend achieved the British Grand Slam doubles finals with Eugenie Bouchard before, it was in the junior section. This time an unexpected incident drew her fate to one of the WTA stars with 25 titles on the doubles tour and together they created a new milestone for the American. Entering the finals with sheer joy, Townsend reveals the plot twist that made this partnership possible this year.

The American divulged an interesting incident that brought her the chance to pair up with Katerina Siniakova. The duo participated in the Wimbledon doubles and reached the finals against Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe. Speaking about it with the Tennis Channel, Townsend first revealed how she was committed to playing with Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia the whole season, who was playing with Storm Sanders. But then Sanders tore her Achilles. While her team’s Caroline Dolehide informed her about it, Townsend received a message from Siniakova on Instagram asking if she was interested in playing doubles.

This American WTA star said, “Then I looked on Instagram and I had a DM from Kat and was like, I don’t know if you saw what happened but you wanna play and I was like (Townsend laughs).” This incident brought Townsend and Siniakova’s fates together and helped them to fulfill their Grand Slam doubles dream in Wimbledon. Given that Siniakova has won 25 doubles titles on the WTA tour, she is nothing less than a legend in women’s doubles. Playing with her was a chance that Townsend couldn’t really let go of.

Despite that, Townsend also expressed her sadness over this decision. “I felt so terrible cause like I’ve never done that before cause I had like agreed to play with Bia for the whole year and try you know make your own championships,” she said.

Keeping aside the sadness, Townsend’s revelations of the plot twist also presented that she was interested in partnering with a talented player like Siniakova in doubles. She also took a hilarious dig at that and engaged in a funny banter with the hosts.
