Is Venus Williams right? Should we all start talking more openly about money and finances?

Venus Williams can never go out of style or out of relevance if that puts things in a clearer perspective. While most sporting personalities are in the habit of flaunting their riches, the Compton-raised superstar feels differently. This, in turn, has subtly helped her evade off-court controversies. For those unaware, the former World No. 1 is the elder sister of 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams.

The American talent has been inactive on the Tour, marking her most recent appearance at the Miami Open. While her on-court adventures have been limited for some time, Williams has taken full advantage of her massive social media presence. Known to frequent talk shows in hopes of providing invaluable insight and first-hand information about her experiences, the 44-year-old recently opened up about her approach to managing her expenses.

Attending the ‘Sofi’ talk show, the former World No. 1 was queried regarding the most valuable lessons she’s learned. Iterating her experiences, Williams expressed that not “living above her means” was a vital lesson taught by her mother, Oracene Price. Furthermore, the five-time Wimbledon champion highlighted that staying on track with money-related matters was how she was raised. For those unaware, the acclaimed Williams sisters owe their rise to the sport to their parents. The 44-year-old’s father, Richard Williams, was largely responsible for initially coaching them and paving their paths to glory.
