The US Election results have hit, and it’s been nothing short of a thrill ride! With Donald Trump and Kamala Harris locked in a tight battle, the tension was thick as voters waited to see where the scales would tip. And now, with Trump sweeping the polls in a grand victory, emotions are running high across the country. Some are glad over the outcome, while others are voicing deep disappointment. Naturally, the tennis community isn’t one to sit back quietly—and who better to jump into the conversation than the legendary Billie Jean King?
The 80-year-old took to her Instagram and penned a message on the results of the polls. King expressed her true emotions and highlighted her resentment over Trump’s return to power as the 47th President of the country. She also shared that while the results are not in alignment with what she had wished for, she should continue working for a great future for the upcoming generations.
Penning the message, King wrote, “Throughout my life, I have fought many battles that at the time seemed daunting and unwinnable.” Remember, besides being an iconic player, King has been a vocal activist who has fought for several aspects related to the sport, including equality for male and female athletes. Continuing further, she wrote that each of her battles taught her something new and the latest US Election results were no different.

“However, each one taught me a valuable lesson, and that lesson is this: we must never stop working to create the future we want to leave for the next generation. The results of the U.S. presidental election have left many of us angry and confused. But this loss is feedback, not failure,” King added. Continuing, she recalled Harris’s speech that she delivered after conceding defeat to Trump. “As Vice President Harris said today, “The light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.” Let’s do this together.”

Trump cleared the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency following a win in Wisconsin early Wednesday. The process of power transfer will soon begin in the country with the Republicans gaining control of the White House and the Senate. King, meanwhile, strongly supported the Democrats throughout the elections and even tried to amass votes for Harris.

When Billie Jean King compared Donald Trump to Bobby Riggs
Billie Jean King is not just known for her landmark contributions to the sport on and off the courts, but also for the famous Battle of Sexes in which she encountered Bobby Riggs. Surprising the community back then, King had defeated Riggs in a major victory in three sets. Interestingly, while taking a political stance on Trump’s 2016 political campaign against Hillary Clinton, she called it a modern Battle of Sexes.
Speaking about the same, King said, “Trump is just like Bobby Riggs…He’s so completely self-centered and it’s never his fault…‘Ah, I’m such a victim, I just won’t do the next debate.’…He just goes on and on,” she said per Inside Tennis. She has often criticized Trump’s past regime as well claiming that the country went backwards under his rule.
