‘Takes Time to Heal…’ – Rapper Common Once Disclosed How He Almost Married Serena Williams Before Deciding to End the Relationship

Serena Williams, before finding her soulmate in Alexis Ohanian, met lots of suitors. One of the greatest players in the sport also maintained a good relationship with several prominent members in the entertainment industry. She is friends with many Hollywood stars such as Beyonce, while also having her fair share of relationships as well.

While speaking about his breakup with the 23-time Grand Slam champion to Uptown magazine in 2014, the rapper said, “If I’m in it as much as I was with Serena, as much as I loved her…it takes time to heal and find that peace to be able to move on. It was kinda eventually a mutual thing [their breakup], but she initiated it.”

Thereafter he added, “It’s OK though! We’ve got a great understanding, and I care about her as a person. Most of the women that I’ve dealt with, I care about, so we can keep that friendship. … You still have that respect and have love for them and still want to see them do well.”

Williams dated Common, whose real name is Lonnie Rashid Lynn, on and off from 2007 to 2010. Then, as per rumors, she got along with another rapper Drake for some time. Though when she posted a snap with former boyfriend celebrating his best song Oscar for Glory in 2015, fans couldn’t help but notice that she was leaning affectionately into his side.

However, when enquired, the former World no.1 immediately removed the picture. Thus, in a way, denying the talks of a patch up. Speaking of Drake, he was a regular at Williams’ matches and also dedicated a verse in his song ‘Worst Behavior’ to her. Further, even after the Common controversy, he was spotted at 2015 Wimbledon finals supporting the tennis ace.
