Peyton Stearns has made it to the headlines in the tennis world once again. Not more than a year ago, Stearns became the first Texas woman player to win the NCAA singles title. But that’s not where it ends. After her win last year, Peyton has been on a roll. Her incredible rise in the tennis world continues as she records another win at Roland Garros.

The 21-year-old American tennis star held the record for the biggest win of her pro career at Roland Garros against Jelena Ostapenko. Her fans could not stay still and cheered for her from all around the world.

From college tennis to Roland Garros, Peyton Stearns shows hard work pays off

Former player at the University of Texas stunned the world with her remarkable win today against Jelena Ostapenko. At her French Open debutant, Peyton recorded the biggest win of her career by defeating the former champion and reached the third round in Roland Garros.  The University of Texas Alumni recorded a memorable French Open upset with a win over a Suzanne Lenglen Cup recipient in round 2. She beat 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 .

Ostapenko, who was attempting to reach the third round for only the third time in 8 visits, had a dismal time on court. Made 28 unforced errors, dropped serve 5 times. Jelena has won the French Open but ever since has been unable to move past the third round. Peyton continued to maintain her calm and compose.

When asked after the match by an interviewer, what her secret was to stay so composed on the court, she said, “Probably college tennis! You see that a lot there. People screaming at you and saying things so. I thrive off that energy, I love it out here.”

Peyton credits her team for her smooth WTA transition

The interviewer asked Stearns how her transition was so smooth and she completely credited her team for it. She added, “They want me to do the best putting in the work. Coming on the court every day and trying my best you know even if it doesn’t look pretty”.

She continued to explain how she won, “Lots of handwork, I couldn’t think of who I was playing or where I was playing. I was able to rebound luckily for the third. Super, super happy with myself and my team”.
